The key factors in deciding which vintage cine camera is right for you are:
* price range * preferred film gauge - 16mm or 8mm * non reflex (ground glass) or reflex (see through the lens) viewfinder * zoom lens or prime (fixed focal length) lenses? * portability Standard 8 vintage bolex cameras are mini versions of the larger 16mm ones, apart from the H8 which looks almost exactly the same as the H16 but takes standard 8mm film (more on that later). The usual non-reflex standard 8mm cameras are much smaller and more portable. Without the handle attached, B, C and D cameras fits in the pocket of your coat (would still fit with the handle sticking out ;)). Prime lenses generally give a more crystal clear image, but for many people the simplicity of the zoom lens (see below) outweighs this in importance for them. As the technology moved on, and especially with the advent of Super 8 cameras, standard 8 cameras moved into offering a zoom lens with some features designed to make it more accessible for a novice user. These are the P, S and K cameras. Image to the right it of a P4 camera (very similar in look to the S1, but with a better lens) which has a more upright case with a fixed handle and of course fabulous 50s styling!
